In 2004, ghd entered the North American market, bringing its total worldwide sales generating £37 million in revenue. The Jemella Group, which owned the ghd brand, was bought by Lloyds Development Capital for £55 million in 2006. It was sold eleven months later to Montagu Private Equity for £160 million. Lion Capital, a British private equity firm, purchased ghd in February 2013 for approximately £300 million.
Hair dryers – Includes the GHD Air hairdryer with a 2,100W motor that generates enough air pressure to dry hair quickly. The temperature can be rapidly shifted from high heat levels to extremely cool thanks to the “Cool shot” function, while a 3m long cable makes the hair dryer extremely mobile as well. Also features the more expensive GHD Aura hair dryer which delivers a more concentrated jet of hot air and technology which lowers the temperature of the casing, avoiding uncomfortable overheating. It’s also lighter and quieter than most competitors.

The ghd is a strong competitor in the high-end market with a variety of popular features and results for hair. It’s a good idea to spend some time looking at reviews on each ghd hair straightener to find what will suit your hair type most. Each ghd straightener has specific design features targeted at different hair types and lengths. If you’re out for a high-end product, the ghd straightener is definitely one to keep in mind.
The ghd max styler comes complete with advanced ceramic heat technology, ensuring a consistent and even optimum styling temperature of 185°ﹾC throughout your style. Smooth, golden floating plates deliver snag-free styling and shine, while the wider plates enable you to style larger sections of hair with ease, perfect for taming frizz in naturally curly hair and great for longer hair types, when creating waves, curls or a simple straight.
The classic fully-automatic "bug" key with mechanical contacts is the first "autokey" GHD has made in a decade. The devil is in the details, and GHD's choice of materials, dimensions, and other technical features, results in a bug that has an unusually crisp and precise feel over its entire speed range. Fingerpieces and weights are packed separately, but easy to install, and there is a third weight that can be installed on the dash lever to bring the speed down farther. The GN209W weighs 2-1/4 Lbs and the base measures a tidy 3" by 5".
One of the most popular ghd products, the ghd IV Styler is a cult classic, and has thin plates to smooth out your locks, or create beautiful curls. The styler comes with ceramic heater technology, which means it heats up quickly so you can do your hair in the fastest time possible without any fuss. This is a great first styler to use if you are new to hair straightening.
A note about the photography-- that much chrome is tough to photograph! What may appear to be smears or blotches in the photographs are often reflections, and sometimes diagonal lines result in a jagged or "aliased" appearance. Please rest assured, the base of each GHD chrome key has a superb mirror-finish, at a time when OSHA and EPA restrictions have made good chrome plating almost impossible in the US. Larger upper parts have what GHD calls a "pear" finish which is a flawless satin chrome, much more resistant to fingermarks. The black-based keys are a heavy, durable multi-layer powder-coat which will resist wear and marking for many years. The black-based keys are more expensive than the chrome versions, because the powder-coating process and associated handling are more expensive than electroplating in Japan.
In March 2013, ghd launched the "Eclipse" hair straightener, which uses six sensors in the plates to maintain a constant heat of 185 degrees celsius, a temperature ghd claims is the optimum temperature for styling results. The consistent temperature reduces the time to style hair, particularly coarse hair that may previously taken multiple run throughs. The Daily Mail called the Eclipse "The Rolls-Royce of irons".
